Idea: For my 3VSP project, I would like to do a sort of rough timeline of someone’s life. I think it would be too much to catalogue all of their life events, but I could probably take specific events that allow the audience to get a feel for what type of life this person lived.
Where: I was talking to a friend of mine who is an English teacher a few weeks ago at a restaurant, and he mentioned how much he felt he’d changed over the years. All of these big events in his life had an impact on who he was.
Critic: Sontag said that photographs, which fiddle with the scale of the world, themselves get reduced, blown up, cropped, retouched, doctored, tricked out. They age, plagued by the usual ills of paper objects; they disappear; they become valuable; and get bought and sold; they are reproduced. Photographs, which package the world, seem to invite packaging. They are stuck in albums, framed and set on tables, tacked on walls, projected as slides. Newspapers and magazines feature them; cops alphabetize them; museums exhibit them; publishers compile them.
Reflection: I think Sontag is trying to outline the life of a photograph. Some paths can be negative; pictures of the real world become heavily distorted, and then forgotten or destroyed. Other avenues are more positive; a photograph can be made famous so that many millions of people will be impacted by it.
Search: I still haven’t decided on all of my photos. I want to take some myself, but I’m not very experienced in that department. I’ve found a few quality pictures that could work, but I’m still refining the exact story I want to tell.
Prezi: I spent some time arranging photos in Prezi to get a feel for the system. I also played around with different paths, and adding text to enhance the message,
Point: I often look back on my life and realize how much different I am today, even from a year ago. I feel like I constantly have these crystallizing moments, where something becomes clear, and I set off down a new path. This is the kind of story I want to represent with my project. I want people my age to understand that this isn’t who we are going to be forever.
